Western conifer seed bug ??? - Leptoglossus occidentalis

Western conifer seed bug ??? - Leptoglossus occidentalis
Chantilly, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
May 23, 2009
Although I have posted the photos of this species, I repost it for comparison with Leaf-footed Pine Seed Bug (Leptoglossus corculus). Fortunately, I met two species at a time tonight.

Its ID is not still evident...

Western Conifer Seed Bug…
Won, you had it right to begin with. As you mentioned in your photo http://bugguide.net/node/view/278897, the tibial dilation is distinctive when you compare the WCSB to the LFPSB.

Thanks, Ross!

I don't know
if there are differences in different parts of the U.S. or at different ages, but the L. occidentalis that I've seen have obvious white stripes rather than the darker and lighter brown like this specimen. Also, the tibial enlargement tends to be more circular and therefore more sudden where it shrinks back down.

Do you know that this is a Western conifer seed bug? If so, good to have in Guide as variation in color/pattern...

I don't know.
I just guess it from the dialation. I'll move it to ID Request. Thanks!
