Which Syrphid? - Ocyptamus fuscipennis - Female
Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA
May 27, 2009
Size: ~ 10 mm
Hovering in front of egg just laid on aphid infested Kalanchoe. Nervous aphid in distance. Frassable.

Moved
Moved from Ocyptamus.

This is Ocyptamus fuscipennis
This is Ocyptamus fuscipennis. its a very variable species.

Moved
Moved from Syrphid Flies.

A bit of a puzzler
Strongly reminds me of Pseudodoros clavatus - the four-spotted aphid fly - but without the spots. There is no other Pseudodoros species here, so I'm out of ideas. Perhaps yours is oddly marked. Perhaps some expert will comment.

ID: Ocyptamus sp., a female
From tribe Syrphini, like the aforementioned P. clavatus.
