Spangled Skimmer? - Libellula cyanea

Spangled Skimmer? - Libellula cyanea
Marion County, Illinois, USA
May 31, 2009
I almost didn't shoot this guy because I thought he was a Slaty Skimmer and I have lots of those already, but his wings were crumpled, so I looked closer and noticed the stigmas are black and white. That would make him a Spangled (Libellula cyanea), wouldn't it?

yes it would
Nice to see he can fly with those wings.

Wow!
Three-minute response time--you're quick! Thanks very much for the confirmation, and no, he didn't seem to have any trouble in the air. In fact, I have another shot of him perched after he'd flown in and chased a Blue Dasher out of its spot. Good perches are somewhat scarce at this pond, and I caught the little dasher in the background of my shot, coming in for Round Two to chase the spangled off his perch. It was fun to watch them!
