Duskywing? - Erynnis funeralis - female

Duskywing? - Erynnis funeralis - Female
DeSoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
May 25, 2009
Although this butterfly never opened its wings for me, the markings on its hindwings reminded me of a Duskywing--the white fringe and range suggested a Funereal. The intensity of its color and markings and its behaviour made me wonder if it was newly emerged. It fluttered into my yard and perched above my head on the fence where it remained motionless for about five minutes. When it finally got tired of me trying to get a picture, it flew to a nearby wrought iron vine support and stayed far within the shadows.
