Fly - Bibio albipennis - male

Fly - Bibio albipennis - Male
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
June 2, 2009

Moved
Moved from March Flies.

This looks like a march fly...
Compare with this one which I photographed in...March.

If the same species you may have noticed an unusual profile when they are in flight. The bodies sort of hang downward making them appear like tiny angels, of all things!

This looks like a march fly...
I did notice that it had an unusual flight pattern.
Thanks,
Nolie

You are welcome!
I forgot to mention that the comparatively large head and huge eyes make this one a male.

Nice photo, by the way!

You are welcome!
Thanks again!

March fly, maybe a Bibio
I believe you've got a male March fly there. It might be Bibio genus. Maybe somebody can get you a more definite ID.

March fly, maybe a Bibio
Thanks, Andy.
