Identification
Dorsal, orange with black markings, consistant with other lesser fritillaries.
Ventral, silver border along both outer wing margins, and HW basal spot is white with a black center spot.
Range
Throughout Canada and the northern U.S. extending southward along the Rockies, and Appalachians.
Found throughout north central Eurasia.
Habitat
Marshes, bogs, and sedge meadows. Nectars in adjacent fields.
Season
In north and at higher elevations, one brood, flying mostly in June. At lowest elevations and southward, May to October with two or perhaps three broods. Overwintering as caterpillars.
Remarks
Populations have been declining in most areas, because they aren't able to adapt very well to changing habitats.
