It's a male Scaeva pyrastri! Typical are the spots and the swollen forehead!

ID to tribe Syrphini is good.
Maybe you've already been through this, but there are two nearly identical candidates - Eupeodes and Scaeva pyrastri. I think yours is the latter, but don't always distinguish them well and can't quite make this one out. Hopefully, Gerard will comment.

Yes, I was thinking Epeodes but was only confident enough for Syrphini. Not the greatest photo but I hope Gerard can take a look.
