chrysalis found
I've never seen one like it. It was inside a rubber alligators mouth in my backyard!!. I use the alligator to keep birds away from my grape tomatoes. The white fibrous threads were so strong I had trouble opening the small alligators mouth. I didn't know anything was in there. I just remembered the mouth being open from last year. The chrysalys itself looks a little like the black one up there, but mine is completely smooth and is very, hard. I can hear little clicks or snaps from inside. Like a mexican jumping bean, and feel motion. It's half an inch long.
I live half a mile from the beach. So its pretty humid here........usually.
What you think it is?

best to post a picture
The best thing to do is get some pictures of it, and post to the ID request section here on the site. I don't know what you found. It sounds interesting. Doesn't look like this does it?
