damselfly - Argia - female

damselfly - Argia - Female
Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas, USA
May 30, 2009

We're thinking nahuana would have some black lines
on the sides of segments 8 and 9, so we're confident this is plana, but Cliff may take a look, so we will wait to see what he says.

updated picture - bigger, less bright
Just in case it might be helpful, I recropped and posted a bigger version of the pic that wasn't quite as bright. It think some of the details were being blown out.

We're struggling to choose between
Argia plana and A. nahuana right now. More later...

thanks for the help
I appreciate you working on this.

This is another female Argia - ovipositor
again visible under end of abdomen. The color pattern is wrong for moesta though. It might be vivida? See
, but we don't know what other Argia are possible in Kansas.
Kansas School Naturalist lists 10 species here, but not vivida, so you'll have to check the others.
