Slick bug. Know it? - Closterocoris amoenus

Slick bug. Know it? - Closterocoris amoenus
Nix Nature Center, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA
June 3, 2009
This is one of those little guys that slip around the back of the plant when you're, say ten feet away. This one didn't quite disappear, but it did keep dancing away from me as I went from one side of the leaf to the other. It finally settled down - a bit - and I was able to get some fairly decent shots of this beautiful insect. From a distance, only the three large yellow markings were visible. Glad I spotted it! Wonder how many other marvels I've missed.

Nice shots!
It seems a dark one of Closterocoris amoenus.

Thanks for your kind words and the ID, WonGun
...

Impressive!!
Nice work Ron :)

Thanks, Ron
I think I found a relative today, the one Harsi mentioned above. Seems to be a good time for bugs here.

While waiting for WonGun...
...I thought I'd at least take a stab at an ID. I think it looks a lot like Closterocoris amoenus, but extremely darkly marked! If it is the same species, there seems to be nothing but the faintest hint of the orange coloration on your specimen's pronotum...

Hmmm... will be curious to hear how this one plays out. I also would like to echo Scott's comment that this is very nicely photographed. Persistence pays off!

Looks close to me, but different.
I had only 45 minutes at Nix today, it started to rain about five minutes into that, but I found all sorts of interesting insects. This was the best.

Sorry, I don't know...
what it is, but that is a nice shot of a beautiful bug. Sharpshooters and some crab spiders are also very elusive, to me anyway.

Thanks for your kind words, Scott.
That means a lot, coming from you. Sharpshooters give me fits. Crab spiders give me five seconds.
