Looks a lot like Leptoglossus oppositus, but I don't know whether that is an eastern sp. only?

It was on a Sycamore
in a dry wash with Baccharis and leafy trees and some few chollas but it was nowhere close to those. It's also bigger than the local Narnia.

That English name is
most often used for Anasa. That's a Coreid, but not this one.
