Those TINY insects

Hey guys. Can anyone (help me) remember what those extremely tiny (almost microscopic) insects are that swarm about this time of year? They are literally no longer than a millimeter (on a good day), cigar shaped and yellowish in color. I remember being told what they were years and years ago, but I wasn't interested enough in that group to retain the info (You know, cause they weren't "cool" like Leps and Vespids - haha). I can't for the life of me remember what they are. Thanks for any help.

Sorry for no picture - my camera has no chance of photographing such a small object.

Where do you live?
It would help to know where you are, since June in Maine is quite different from June in San Diego.

That being said, I'm going to guess that they are thrips. Just a wild guess though.

Ok, I guess you live in Alabama
Now that I've taken the time to look at your profile. I still say thrips.

That's it !
Yes, that's what they are. I don't know why that was escaping me ... should be easy to remember - 'thrips.'.

I don't see them (en masse) every year, but when I do there's a BIG emergence around this time and you can't do anything to keep them off of you when go outside. No problem, just a bit annoying.

Thanks for help Mark, I really appreciate it.
