Crimson-ringed Whiteface? - Cordulia shurtleffii - female

Crimson-ringed Whiteface? - Cordulia shurtleffii - Female
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
June 6, 2009
Possibly a female or immature Crimson-ringed Whiteface, Leucorrhinia glacialis.

American Emerald
Yep, a female American Emerald (Cordulia shurtleffii). The wing venation is even visible as a supporting character.

Cordulia shurtleffi, I believe...
AKA American Emerald. The narrow, broken yellow ring between segments 2 and 3, as well as shape of the abdomen are my main clues. The yellow spots on 2 and 3 darken with age, to look more like the female illustrated in Dragonflies of the Nothwoods by K Mead. The ID is not 100%, but pretty sure (90%?). Great shot!

Emerald
It's one of the Emeralds. I'm unsure beyond that however. Any other angles?

Emerald
Thanks, Jason. This was the only shot I got.
