Click-like beetle on salt marsh trail - Coniontis

Click-like beetle on salt marsh trail - Coniontis
Palo Alto Baylands, Santa Clara County, California, USA
June 6, 2009
Size: ~ 1 cm
I found this dark beetle crawling across a dirt trail through a salt marsh. The pronotum has click-type backward extensions, but the antennae don't seem to look right for a click beetle?

Ahhh -
thanks! Will move to family page for now - or are these photos not further IDable/frass?

Beginner's guess...
...and nothing more. I thought I might see some similarities between your beetle and some of the images submitted for genus Coniontis:

But, you will definitely need someone else to back me up on that!

Thanks, Harsi -
certainly looks close and from the right part of the country!
