Medium Bee - Halictus ligatus - female

Medium Bee - Halictus ligatus - Female
UCI Arboretum, Orange County, California, USA
June 6, 2009
Size: half of a honeybee
Very little besides honeybees around today, but I did find this one, of whom I have many more photos if a different angle would help. It was collecting pollen from California Bush Sunflowers (a bee favorite plant around here). The storage of pollen on the entire hind legs was very noticeable. I'm not sure I've seen a bee just cover its entire hind legs in pollen like this before. Usually it's more of a ball. This gave the bee a really unique appearance that made it jump out.
