Size: 1 inch (approximately)
This insect was captured during Bioblitz 2009 at Hitchcock Nature Center. He unfortunately died while trying to id him so the shots are actually of a dead insect.

This one was extremely puzzling at first. I initially saw it in flight & it looked like some sort of clearwing moth, but clearly the antler like, plume antenna didn't fit. I appreciate the id.

It's a Beetle
I believe this is something in the Family Ripiphoridae, some of which have the shell-like forewings called elytra reduced to little "shoulder pads":
