Tiny nymph on butterflyweed - Scaphoideus incisus

Tiny nymph on butterflyweed - Scaphoideus incisus
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 6, 2009
Size: about 4 mm
This nymph was so small,it was hard to recognize as living with the naked eye.

Moved
Moved from Scaphoideus.

Short head, so likely Scaphoideus
such as . Dr Hamilton will know.

Scaphoideus
Yes! Butterfly weed is the same genus as milkweed (Asclepias) and the nymphs are obviously the same, so PLEASE watch for adults, and when you see them, collect them for scientific study. We presently do not know of any on this particular host.

Thanks.
I haven't seen any Scaphoideus adults around, but will keep my eyes open for them this summer.

Scaphoideus incisus
