Metallic Green Beetle carrying egg - Calosoma sycophanta

Metallic Green Beetle carrying egg - Calosoma sycophanta
Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area in Pinelands, Ocean County, New Jersey, USA
June 16, 2008
Size: about 1.5"
I saw several of these large and very active metallic green beetles on Pitch Pine trees in the Pinelands. Upon closer investigation, one of the beetles was carrying eggs and appeared to be hiding them deep in the cracks of the tree bark. Beetles could see me from 10 feet away and would evade me. I have a close up shot of the head/mandibles if it would help in ID. Thank You
