Satyr - Megisto cymela

Satyr - Megisto cymela
Anherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
May 29, 2009
Size: @2-2 1/2"
I would appreciate help confirming this...I think it's a Little Wood Satyr (Viola's), but not totally sure as Kaufman says it's a Southern form.

Thank you.

Yes it's a Little Wood Satyr
As for "viola", no it wouldn't be that, but it depends on interpretation. Specimens with pinkish or lavender overtones below (usually lost on worn individuals) have been called "viola", but they aren't really. There could actually be more than one species involved here though, and there are people trying to sort it all out.

Moved from Nymphs, Satyrs and Arctic Butterflies.
