Pedilus lugubris (Say) ?
I agree, for males, the elytral apices - and genitalia (which males kindly tend to extrude when thet expire) - are of critcal importance in determining species of Pedilus. This is also the most common species in Lake Co., IL, and they are out in big numbers right now.
