White Furry Catepillar with Black

White Furry Catepillar with Black "feather" like protusions - Halysidota tessellaris
Bear Creek, Chatham County, North Carolina, USA
December 31, 1969
Size: aprx 3 inches
This beauty was found on a concrete well located just inside the treeline of the woods of central NC, shady cool environment. Pictures taken in the early afternoon. Have never seen another one of its kind since, and have never properly ID'd it. Remarkable feather like "antanae" (?) on the head and tail end. A catepillar strait from Alice in Wonderland :) After taking pictures and observing it it crawled under the heavy concrete lid of the well.

Halysidota tessellaris - Banded Tussock Moth
I think it's the Banded Tussock Moth caterpillar. Not an expert though.

Moth Cat
THANKS for having a look...After more investigation here on the site its definatly a moth catepillar...looks like a "dagger moth" but the black things seem to be in the wrong place. Hope I see another.

.
The tufts on its back are indicative of tussock moth cater. I saw the dagger moth cater pic you're referring to. Here's another from an angle more like your pics.
