Yellow Hopper - Jikradia olitoria

Yellow Hopper - Jikradia olitoria
Middle Island, Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA
August 16, 2005
Identified using the many images in BugGuide (I'm posting to add West Virginia to the map). Wow, is this species varied in its color and markings from individual to individual or population to population!

Coelidia olitoria
In adults, the "color variation" is mostly in the coating of waxy pellets (brochosomes) with which the insect covers itself. When there are few brochosomes, it looks brown; when there are many, it looks yellowish.
