Royal River Cruiser? - Macromia taeniolata

Royal River Cruiser? - Macromia taeniolata
Marion County, Illinois, USA
June 13, 2009
This one surprised me by perching...on a branch way over my head, of course, where it stayed for ages, just out of reach of a good shot. I see these big, brown "mystery dragons" in this spot often, but they're always flying high and seem nearly tireless. The closest I can find in the guide is Macromia taeniolata.
