This critter drew a crowd of butterfly-watchers. Life bug for me!

Now Perichares adela
Perichares philetes adela was raised to full species status in Burns et al. (2008) and this treatment is followed by Pelham (2017) (1). I made the change to the species page after posting comments on the Taxonomy Proposals forum here. I do not know if this is controversial and would appreciate input from others.

forum
It occurs to me that your post in the taxonomy proposals forum might be a more appropriate venue to post what feedback I receive from TLS. I'll post Brock's comment and any others there.

Jim Brock
First comment back does indicate some controversy or at least that the issue is unsettled, from Jim Brock: "Based upon further collecting research it appears that adela phenotypes are flying with or in close proximity to philetes phenotypes in Peru. I do not think that a split has been formally done. Someone else might know. I can ask Dr. Lamas when I see him this fall to get a better answer for you. It may be a while before there is a clear answer since the genus might have to be revised which will be time consuming for some taxonomist."

Stay tuned....
I'll relay your inquiry to the Lep Society's e-mail list and let you know what I hear back. Jon Pelham is a member of that list, so I'm guessing that he won't object, at least...

I should mention that MPG will follow Pelham.
