Copelatus caelatipennis princeps ? - Copelatus caelatipennis - female

Copelatus caelatipennis princeps ? - Copelatus caelatipennis - Female
Middleburg, Clay County, Florida, USA
June 9, 2009
Size: 4.63mm avg (8)
Collected at light. Keyed via "Identification Manual for the Water Beetles of Florida -
Epler". Going with "princeps" because of the lighter transverse fascia at the base of
the elytra. The other possibility is C. glyphicus, but I don't do genitalia. Both of
these are females.

Agree with the id
other than the pale basal band, I also see longitudinal strioles on the pronotum, which is also a diagnostic character. I will leave out subspecies for now though...the 2 (princeps and angustatus) are both found in FL.

Copelatus
Thank you for the confirmation Tim. I also saw that angustatus
was in South Florida, and that the two may be separated by the
absence of strioles on the pronotal disc on C.c.angustatus.
