Western Lynx Spider - after the molt - Oxyopes scalaris - male

Western Lynx Spider - after the molt - Oxyopes scalaris - Male
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
May 26, 2009
Size: 3 - 4 mm
We've had a bumper crop of western lynx spiders this year, and lately I've been ignoring them. But this one looked so clean and new, I had to take an image. After several more images of what I thought odd behavior, I realized this little fellow had just molted and was hanging himself out to dry - a perfect little weathervane, the broad side always pointing into the wind.

The last image is his old shell.
