buffalo treehopper?
This appears to be an extreme color form of the buffalo treehopper, Ceresa alta. I have seen specimens with the front of the pronotum just a bit darker, but never as dark as this one. But the shape of the pronotum is correct for C. alta.
If anyone finds another specimen of this form, I would very much like to examine it. Contact me at hamiltona(at)agr.gc.ca

Ceresa tauriniformis
There is another photo of this color variety on http://bugguide.net/node/view/90673/bgimage
The crest is not as wide as it appears!

Thanks
for the ID Andy, and if I see another one like this, I'll try to collect it.
