Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin cerasus meaning "cherry tree." Hübner notes that the larvae hatch just as the new leaves unfold on the cherry trees.

Forewing length 8-12 mm. (1)
Range
Widely distributed in the Palearctic from Western Europe to Asia. In North America it has been introduced to the Pacific Northwest. The first North American records are from British Columbia in 1965. (1)
