Spider Wasp - Episyron - male

Spider Wasp - Episyron - Male
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
June 13, 2009
This is the first time I've seen this wasp. It has wicked spurs.
Unfortunately I could not get a better photo but would like to know what it is if possible and then Frass it.

Spider Wasp?
Reminds me of Pompilidae(1) but I couldn't say why.

Thanks, John

Correct.
Male Episyron sp. They are among the few pompilids with white markings.

Male Episyron sp.
I added it to the Episyron page instead of Frass since there was not one for NY.
Feel free to Frass if you think that was not appropriate.

Thanks Eric!

If it earns an ID, it's a good shot.
Venation is nice and clear. Wasps are tough to shoot.

Thanks, Ron!
This one was like greased lightning plus the parsnips are 6 feet tall in some places and I have to stand on my toes most of the time - not good for camera shake.

If I grow these again I'm going to cut them back so that they bloom shorter.
