Scorpionfly - Panorpa galerita - female

Scorpionfly - Panorpa galerita - Female
Henrietta, Monroe County, New York, USA
June 17, 2009
I think this is Panorpa mirabilis, based on the wing pattern, but I would like other opinions.

Moved tentatively
Moved from Panorpa.

Based on the location and win
Based on the location and wing markings this is most likely Panorpa galerita, with a slight possibility of P. mirabilis.

Re: Based on the location...
My tentative ID was based on the wing markings for P. mirabilis at Wing Plate of Ontario Species of Panorpa. I believe that both P. mirabilis and P. galerita are found in New York State. Note that this location is in northwestern New York State, not the New York City area.
