Was browsing the Lepturines, trying to figure out what this critter was. Seemed like there were a thousand longhorns with black body and red elytra but none with the reverse. Then spotted Tom Bentley's photo of this species, taken one day after mine, and at the NABA-IBP, just over a mile from Bentsen-RGV SP. I think we have a winner!

Oh, and note the ambush bug (Phymata sp.), lurking on the flowers at which the beetle is nectaring, but for some reason opting to scuttle around the far side of the blooms rather than attack. This beetle must taste pretty bad for even Phymata to turn the other cheek...
