Harmonia axyridis

Harmonia axyridis
Alameda County, California, USA
June 20, 2009
Size: 0.3 in. (7.6 mm)
Another day, another bug. Larger than other species around here; black with C-shaped yellow spot on each side; wing covers extremely shiny, so that reflections came out looking like markings. A photo taken three days later, a ventral view, shows orange around the margin of the lower abdomen. This orange color goes two thirds of the way to the front of the abdomen. The wings (not photographed) are black.

Just a hunch...
...but I wonder if this isn't one of the more bizarre forms of Harmonia axyridis (Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle)? You will need to wait for someone with more experience than me to confirm, but check out these other images already in the guide:

The pattern on the pronotum in the second image seems very similar to your images...

H. axyridis 100%
This is one of the rarer forms that keep the yellow all of their adult life.
