Colbalt Blue - don't know what. - Harrisina metallica

Colbalt Blue - don't know what. - Harrisina metallica
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
June 21, 2009
I've submitted this bug before but didn't have a good picture. It is so rare to find it that it's taken 2 years for me to capture this pictures. Size is compared to the thumb in the picture - it was laying eggs and those are also within the shot of the bug. It is on my grape leaves.
Thanks for the help.
Kay

Probably Harrisina americana - no, metallica
Harrisina metallica americana, the Western grapeleaf skeletonizer moth, fits the bill.

I rescind my previous ID of Harrisina americana in favor of the Western species. But I still like this picture of H. american laying her eggs on a grape leaf, just like her Western cousin in your picture:

.

Wow - fast & good info.
Thanks all - that was quick, interesting in deduction and seems pretty accurate. The best thing for me was the quick feel of satisfaction with your answer.

Now to seek, how to keep it from stripping my grapes.

Thanks again,
Kay-Marie

Looks to be
Harrisina metallica - Western Grapeleaf Skeletonizer, in the guide here

good catch
J & J, I didn't even think to look there... but that does seem a better match based on the photos... and duh, I should have noted that the post says it's sitting on GRAPE LEAVES.

appears to be a moth
to me, that looks like a moth;
maybe one of the Ctenucha, or another arctiid close by like in Tribe Euchromiini.
