Scolopendra heros arizonensis - Scolopendra heros

Scolopendra heros arizonensis - Scolopendra heros
Elephant Head Road, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
August 3, 2007
Size: ~ 8 inches
Why did the centipede cross the road? This is the first Scolopendra for me in Arizona that I didn't uncover. This behemoth was casually sauntering across the road when I rolled up. A very nice find!

Scolopendra heros arizonensis
I found one that was between 5 and 6 inches long. It had a mighty bite. Luckily, I had gloves on!
