Looks Like 3170.2 - Pelochrista milleri Wright, 2007
D.J. Wright described this species in J. Lepid. Soc. 61(2), 2007, 84-86, based on recently collected material as well as specimens dating back to 1925. To the best that I can determine the only species with which it might be confused are not found in New England. The date here might be early by 10 days or so, but that could be expected in cases where few records exist. A comparable date for Quebec was for a reared larva found boring in roots of Helianthus tuberosus.
The specimen currently shown at MPG is placed in error and will be replaced by the proper photo of one of Miller's specimens at Miss. Ent. Mus.
