Waterfall Glen nr Darien, Illinois, USA
August 20, 2005
Size: ~1/4"
This shot was an accident. I was taking my first shot of the creature in image 5013600, and it was only later that I saw that this creature was in the lower corner. Unfortunately I missed part of its head as I didn't even discover it till reviewing shots. I get the sense of a neuropteran, but not like green lacewing larvae which I've seen many times.

#29224 Identification -- Micromus sp.
This is the larva of a brown lacewing of the genus Micromus, perhaps Micromus posticus.

Brown lacewing larva?
I would bet this is the larva of a brown lacewing. They are also aphid predators.

I had considered Brown Lacewing. I have never even seen an adult since I started photography. I'll see if I can confirm that.
Thanks

Hi eric,
You sure know your insects. I have found that this is a hemerobiid. probably of the genus Micromus, perhaps M. posticus or M. subanticus (based mostly on the distibution)

Also the Mealybug destroyer was confirmed.
Thanks a lot!
