Reality Check: Is this Paravilla? - Paravilla fumida

Reality Check: Is this Paravilla? - Paravilla fumida
Nix Nature Center, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA
June 21, 2009
Unless this is something out of the ordinary, I'll probably frass. Tapered abdomen gives me pause, and shading on the wings seems similarly odd. Your take?

Looks Like
Either a Chrysanthrax cypris or something that knows one

Thanks, Robert.
I forgot to query the fly as to known associates and pledge to do better next time. I have a hunch C. cypris ain't from around here.

Closest CA relative...
...I think would be C. vanus, but that doesn't look all that similar.

Don't quite know what to make of the tapered abdomen and more heavily shaded wings, but I'd make a haphazard guess that this is another Paravilla fulvicoma. I'm sure someone will give us an answer soon...

ID
This is Paravilla fumida. Was it seen to visit Camissonia sp? I have noticed a strong preference.

There was a lot of that plant around it.
I didn't see it visiting any flowers, but it was flying low to the ground.

Thanks for the ID; this is another bee fly first for me.

New fly
Cool, it's always fun to notch a new one. Maybe I can get out and do the same this weekend.

Hope so, Andy.
I'll be lookin' too.
