Blue Dasher male with mites-6-20-09 - Pachydiplax longipennis - Male
Cass County, Texas, USA
June 20, 2009
Size: 1 1/2"
I have photographed at least a dozen different species of Dragonflies so far this year and the only ones I have seen with mites are the Blue Dashers. Both male and females seem to infested. Although I have seen mites on Dragonflies before, it was never this heavy and on so many. I have found several Blue Dashers floating in the pond barely alive. After retrieving them and looking, I discovered amazing numbers of mites on them.
