south Texas longhorn - Eupogonius pauper

south Texas longhorn - Eupogonius pauper
Medina County, Texas, USA
June 2, 2008
Size: 7mm
attracted to mv/black light.

best guess, Eupogonius pauper
hope Dr Thomas will weigh in

Yes
but E. fulvovestitus Schaeffer is also known from Texas. It has blunt pronotal tubercles and glabrous areas on the elytra. The picture does not show the tubercles and I don't see glabrous areas so I'd go with E. pauper.

Thanks Dr Thomas!
for the ID and great information!

E. pauper does look very close
and the range/size look good! Thanks for the help!

Fur Coat?
Sorry, Maury, but I don't know. I depend on -v- for beetle ID :) I can't help but wonder WHY would it need a fur coat in South Texas? It's 103 in the shade on the Alabama Gulf Coast!

Thanks Robert!
that is hot for AL! We are a little more used to the heat here in south TX. 106° here yesterday.
