Yes

but E. fulvovestitus Schaeffer is also known from Texas. It has blunt pronotal tubercles and glabrous areas on the elytra. The picture does not show the tubercles and I don't see glabrous areas so I'd go with E. pauper.

Fur Coat?

Sorry, Maury, but I don't know. I depend on -v- for beetle ID :) I can't help but wonder WHY would it need a fur coat in South Texas? It's 103 in the shade on the Alabama Gulf Coast!
