Black and White caterpillar
Thank you for your ID on my black and white caterpillar as, Alypia ridingsii. I sent this caterpillar photo in about two years ago, I am pleased that the BugNet site is here. I have taught junior high science and math for over 25 years, and now am an elementary school teacher on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains in east-central California. Since we moved here, my husband and I have been trying to learn all the wildlife in our area. We have identified several new birds in our area, and are members of our local Audubon Society. I got into insects in college, and my students have really been captivated by insects over the years.
