Tennesseellum formica (Emerton, 1882) - Tennesseellum formica - Male
Rapid City, Pennington County, South Dakota, USA
June 23, 2009
Size: 2 mm
Thanks to a tip from Joey Slowik, I now have good reason to believe that this is Tennesseellum formica / Tennesseellum formicum. Kaston (1972) writes: "Male palp with femur armed with teeth" and his drawing of the female also shows a similar enlongated, ovoid carapace. Will confirm pedipalp when back home.

Specimen: kmp-06358

Heh, heh... you mean I was supposed to take notes? ;-) Yes, sweeping, I think. I don't think I collected anything on the ground -- was too overgrown.

There is a grass field and wash in the development where my mother lives that has been allowed to go wild -- sort of a mini-riparian habitat.
