Hawk moth (Sphingidae) -
Sphinx luscitiosa
Beaverhill Lake, Alberta, Canada
June 25, 2009
Like a Wild Cherry Sphinx but with yellow and black hindwings and body. I studied all the Alberta species but haven't come across this one before.

google WLSS silkmoth and go to the sphinx pages..it appears to be quite rare...too bad you didnt get a better pic of the wings..but they (sphinx) are terribly hard to photograph. ive spent days trying to get a decent pic of the underwings of Sphinx sequoiae..used light sheets and practicly frozen them in the ref. its difficult. they are jumpy as all get out, and when you capture them they really beat themselves up fast.

No need to Google anything.
All you have to do is click the
Info tab
for this page and read the information I put there 4 years ago, arranged by category for quick access.
The whole point of my adding information to BugGuide's Info pages is so that people don't have to waste their time (and my time) duplicating the effort I've already made. Before you go off Googling in the future, why not check the Info page first? The information might already be there -- as it was in this case.
