Black Tarantula Hawk at blacklight - Pepsis - male

Black Tarantula Hawk at blacklight - Pepsis - Male
Picture Rocks, NW of Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA
June 23, 2009
Size: 39 mm

Moved from Mexican Tarantula-hawk Wasp.

Re-evaluation is necessary. 39 mm is almost twice the maximum size that male P. mexicana reach. If my eyes are being reliable, I'm only counting 10 flagellomeres, which for a male would indicate P. grossa.

Agree!

Pepsis.
Nice:-) This should be a male Pepsis mexicana, though he is terribly disoriented if he is showing up at a blacklight....
