Freshwater Slug - Hydrophilus

Freshwater Slug - Hydrophilus
Ridge, Suffolk County, New York, USA
June 25, 2009
Size: Approximately 3 inches
I found a few of these guys cruising in small temporary freshwater wetlands lined with clay and very little vegetation. They were in amongst hundreds of tadpoles (which I believe were bufo americanus)

Hydrophilus larva
*

Hmm,
I think something along the lines of a Water Scavanging Beetle (Hydrophilidae) larva.
