Flightless Tiger Beetle (Omus audouini), breeding -
Omus audouini
-
near Salem, Polk County, Oregon, USA
May 24, 2009
Size: ~0.75"
Found in an Oak Savannah with many of its species in close proximity and 2 other pairs breeding too. I'm probably 99% sure on this ID but I thought I'd run it through here first

Great find and nice shot.
What was the weather like? I thought I read that these were nocturnal but sometimes diurnal on cloudy days.

Weather,
well I believe it was partially/mostly cloudy (I remember a few sun breaks while I was out looking) and these critters were mainly under small pieces of wood.
