Is this Phaedon (Coleoptera, Chrysomelinae)?

I collected a small metallic green beetle ~3-5mm long with rows of indents on the elytra. It seems to match the illustration in Peterson's Beetle Guide pg 297.

Does Phaedon have an enlarged hind femur... really "fat" and ~1mm long... with the same metallic green coloration as on the elytra?

Also, any idea if Phaedon is widespread in Southern Ontario?

Flea beetle.
You are describing some kind of flea beetle, that's for sure:-) It is a huge and complex group of beetles within the Chrysomelidae. It really helps to know what host plant your beetle is on. Then you can consult a catalog of Chrysomelidae (there IS such a volume on North American leaf beetles) and cross-reference to narrow the possiblities considerably. Good luck:-) Oh, any field guide can only get you so far, usually only to family. After that, you have to go looking for more technical references, usually at a major university library. The internet may well change that eventually, so hang in there.
