I found this guy in a cherry tree right outside my house. I'm amazed at how much its pattern has adapted to the red-spotted leaves. This wasn't in my insect book, sadly.

looks like Paonias
maybe the Blinded Sphinx, P. excaecatus. But if not, we would guess one of the other members of genus Paonias. Are you a fan of the dinosaur or the band?
