caterpillar - Cimbex americanus

caterpillar - Cimbex americanus
Merrimack, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 25, 2009
Size: ~1 1/4 or 1 1/2 in.
This creamy yellow caterpillar was found crawling over the grass. It stayed curled up for 2 hours, and as soon as I touched it, it recurled. I had to force it out of the curled position for the photos. Nothing I've ever seen, nor anything like it in my guide. It has a long black and blue stripe running down the length of its body.
