in the middle of the dirt access road to the Golden Promise Mine

This seems to be an unusually dark specimen, but since it's dead, this may be an artifact.

Hi andy
I caught the specimen live and the poor thing was in my camera case for much of the day before I was able to photograph it. However this was the coloration which it had when I caught it.
What should I look at to determine species if that is possible?
